The X Files was a Sci Fi TV show that ran on Fox Channel for 9 seasons and quickly became a cult series; the show grew to the extent of becoming a pop culture icon. Today, hearing expressions such as “the truth is out there” or “I want to believe” will immediately bring to mind the series and its main characters, namely FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully and their constant search for the truth. One of the main attractions of the show was the fact that the plot put a great deal of emphasis on conspiracy theories and large scale world dominion plans by an alien race, systematically covered up and aided by the US government and high ranking officials in exchange for certain privileges and promises of salvation etc.
The show’s tone was generally dark and foreboding and immersed the viewer in a climate of mysticism, horror, spirituality and suspense. There were many recurring themes featured in the series, such as religion, paranormal activity, conspiracies, science, pseudo-science, spirituality, extraterrestrial life, superstition, mythology, gender issues, philosophy, comedy, technology etc.
Dana Scully and Fox Mulder are constantly faced with all sorts of crimes involving paranormal and supernatural phenomena that they need to investigate and solve. Many of these cases are often left unsolved, given that they rarely have any hard evidence to back up their findings.
Given its overwhelming popularity and huge fan base around the world, Fox Network executive producers managed to convince the creator of the series and the main stars of the show, namely Chris Carter, Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny, Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis to make a comeback in 2016. The result of that comeback was an extra season featuring 6 episodes, which is to be continued and will probably air in 2017 or 2018.
